MEI Puts Link-Belt 300 | AT to Work in Data Center Boom
MEI Industrial Solutions is putting the first Link-Belt 300 | AT all-terrain crane to work on one of the country’ s busiest construction fronts— the data center market in northern Virginia.
The Coppell, Texas-based company added the 300-ton machine to its taxi crane fleet in June, taking delivery through Link-Belt Mid-Atlantic. Since then, MEI has been using the crane to unload and stage equipment near Dulles International Airport to support projects in a region that accounts for 13 % of worldwide operational capacity.
Outfitted with its full 162,000 pounds of counterweight, the 300 | AT recently lifted fully rigged 30,000-pound chillers at a 60-foot radius. MEI operator Joshua Luis said the crane is meeting the demands of the work while offering standout travel and setup performance.
“ Its highway travel is like driving a Cadillac down the road,” Luis said.“ Pulse 2.0 makes operating the 300 | AT easy. If I have any trouble, I can call Link-Belt Mid-Atlantic, and they can assist and keep me working.”
Luis, who has 25 years of crane operating experience, said the single-engine design simplifies maintenance, while the crane’ s fine metering, boom speed and swing controls make it effective in tight spaces. He also pointed to its turning radius, suspension and camera package as features that improve jobsite mobility.
“ With the 300 | AT, I can pick generators with a six-part line that other cranes would need eight parts of line for,” he said.“ That makes work a lot smoother and a lot faster.”
Luis said the crane has already proven its worth.“ If anyone’ s looking into getting a 300-ton, this is definitely one to get,” he said.“ It’ s a really good crane.”
