Konecranes Nears Completion of U. S. Navy Jib Crane Deliveries
Konecranes is finalizing the delivery of four portal jib cranes to the U. S. Navy in Washington State, fulfilling a contract signed in 2017. Two 25-ton, self-powered jib cranes were delivered to the Navy base in Bangor during the first quarter of 2024. The remaining two were scheduled for delivery to the Bremerton base by June 2025.
The new cranes will support equipment handling operations at both sites. At Bangor, they replaced aging equipment to improve safety and reliability. The cranes destined for Bremerton will expand the current jib crane fleet and increase the base’ s operational capacity.
Manufactured in Waukesha, Wisconsin, the cranes are designed to meet Navy-specific operational and safety standards. They are engineered for highduty performance and include features to ensure efficient and secure handling. Each crane is self-powered and designed for flexible transportation, moving from barge to land using self-propelled modular transporters and then relocated to their final installation sites by barge.
Konecranes’ role in the project reflects its continued focus on customer needs, business growth and innovation in material handling. The company is committed to improving operational efficiency through technological advancement, decarbonization and enhanced safety standards across its product lines.
