News Link Liebherr Completes Overhaul of HS 8300.1 Duty Cycle Crane
Liebherr USA Co. has completed a full overhaul of an HS 8300.1 duty cycle crawler crane for Matthews Brothers Dredging LLC, returning the machine to service after more than 20,000 operating hours and incorporating several equipment upgrades.
The work was performed at Liebherr’ s facility through the company’ s Liebherr Transform program, which offers upgrades, retrofits, and complete overhauls for duty cycle machines, deep foundation equipment, and crawler cranes up to 400 tons.
Matthews Brothers Dredging has operated the HS 8300.1 for bucket dredging projects along the U. S. Gulf Coast for the past four years. The machine features a 500-kilonewton winch capacity and winch speeds of up to 125 meters per minute( 410.11 feet per minute), allowing for fast working cycles in dredging applications.
After accumulating more than 20,000 operating hours, Liebherr conducted a detailed inspection of the crane in February 2025. Based on the machine’ s maintenance history and projected future use, the company developed an overhaul plan that included recommended upgrades and technical improvements.

Manitowoc Introduces Potain Power Solutions for Tower Cranes
Manitowoc has introduced Potain Power Solutions, a new range of energy storage systems designed to support tower crane operations while reducing reliance on diesel generators and unstable local power infrastructure.
The systems are intended for use on projects ranging from remote, off-grid jobsites to urban construction sites where noise and emissions regulations may limit the use of conventional generators.
The new energy storage systems were developed specifically for tower crane applications and are designed to handle the high-duty cycles and peak power demands associated with lifting operations.
Unlike conventional battery systems, Potain Power Solutions are engineered to support high-rate discharge and peak current demand during hoisting. According to Manitowoc, the systems allow cranes to maintain lifting performance and operating speeds without voltage drops or power interruptions.
The systems also provide grid stabilization and uninterruptible power supply( UPS) functionality to help protect crane electronics during unstable power conditions or outages.
Potain Power Solutions are offered in output capacities of 135 and 270 kilovolt-amperes, with larger configurations exceeding 375 kilovolt-amperes. The systems are compatible across the Potain tower crane lineup, from entry-level models to larger specialized cranes, and can also supply power to other jobsite equipment.
The units incorporate liquid cooling technology designed to maintain battery performance in high-temperature and high-humidity environments. Manitowoc said the systems are built to withstand vibration, impacts, and repeated transport between jobsites while remaining compact enough for efficient relocation using a forklift.
According to the company, the onboard energy management system can reduce fuel consumption by as much as 70 % compared with conventional diesel generators. In applications operating solely on electric power, the diesel generator can be eliminated entirely. Manitowoc also said the systems offer quieter operation and produce zero on-site emissions, which may benefit projects operating under environmental or noise restrictions.
Manitowoc said the introduction of Potain Power Solutions is intended to support customers in emerging markets with energy storage technology designed to improve tower crane efficiency while reducing dependence on traditional power sources.

The overhaul was completed at Liebherr’ s repair and maintenance workshop in Houston, eliminating the need to transport the machine over longer distances. During the project, technicians replaced all hydraulic components, hydraulic hoses, and electrical systems. The crane also received upgrades that have been introduced on newer Liebherr machines during the past five years, including improved boom lighting, additional boom walkway safety features, and enhancements to the central lubrication system designed to improve maintenance efficiency.
The project was completed in approximately 12 weeks, after which the HS 8300.1 was reassembled on its dredging barge and returned to service.
According to Liebherr, the Transform program is designed to extend the service life of existing machines by combining overhauls with updated technologies. The company said the program is supported through its global network of sales and service locations and provides an alternative to purchasing new equipment while helping conserve resources.
