Konecranes Updates Science-Based Emissions Target for 2030
Konecranes has announced a new nearterm emissions reduction target for its own operations, increasing its goal for cutting greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. The updated target reflects progress the company says it has already made in reducing emissions and has been approved by the Science Based Targets initiative( SBTi).
The company reached its previous science-based target for scope one and scope two emissions ahead of schedule in 2022. That target called for a 50 % absolute reduction from a 2019 baseline. Konecranes now aims for a 60 % absolute reduction in scope one and two emissions by 2030. As of 2024, the company reports a 54 % reduction toward that goal.
In addition to its operational target, Konecranes has maintained its existing scope three target, which calls for a 50 % absolute reduction in emissions from purchased goods and services and the use of sold products by 2030. Progress toward the scope three target stood at 20 % in 2024.
The updated targets align with the Paris Agreement’ s objective of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. As part of the SBTi validation process, Konecranes also updated its scope three emissions calculations using revised data, including updated energy-use assumptions for key products. The company said these changes resulted in lower reported total emissions compared with earlier calculations.
Separately from its science-based targets, Konecranes has set a goal of achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2030. The company has refined that objective to focus on carbon-neutral manufacturing operations, citing uneven progress in vehicle electrification and charging infrastructure development. Carbon neutrality, according to the company, involves reducing emissions as much as possible and offsetting remaining emissions through verified carbon credits.

CraneWorks has entered into a strategic partnership with Hammar Lift Inc. to support the installation, service and parts distribution of Hammar sideloader equipment in the United States.
Under the agreement, Houstonbased CraneWorks will act as the U. S. installation, service and parts support partner for Hammar sideloaders, expanding access to container-handling and heavy-lift equipment through CraneWorks’ nationwide service network. Hammar Lift Inc. is the U. S. division of Hammar, a global manufacturer of sideloader trailers and superstructures.
According to Mike Evans, president and COO of CraneWorks, the partnership with Hammar Lift brings best-in-class sideloader technology that supports CraneWorks’ goal of expanding lifting solutions beyond traditional crane models and into broader logistics, transport and specialized lifting applications. Evans said the partnership allows CraneWorks to help provide a safe, efficient and versatile product line that aligns with the company’ s values of reliability, performance and service.
Hammar sideloader equipment combines hydraulic sideloading cranes with a semi-trailer or truck chassis, allowing a single operator to load, unload and transport containers, flat racks and other heavy cargo. According to the company, the machines are designed for applications requiring container stacking, vehicle-to-vehicle transfers and operation in locations without additional lifting equipment.
Hammar brings more than 50 years of experience in sideloader design and has delivered equipment to more than 125 countries worldwide. The partnership is intended to strengthen Hammar’ s footprint in the U. S. by providing localized service and parts support.
David Gustafsson, vice president of Hammar Lift Inc., said the partnership with CraneWorks represents a key step in expanding the company’ s presence in the U. S. He noted that CraneWorks’ nationwide service network, heavy-equipment expertise and customer-first culture position the company as an ideal partner to support Hammar sideloader solutions in the U. S. marketplace.
The collaboration will initially focus on U. S.-based installations, service support and localized parts availability to support Hammar sideloader equipment nationwide.
