Tadano Rolls Out New Electric Rough Terrain Crane for US and Canada
The Tadano eGR- 1000XLL-1 is powered by lithium-ion batteries for both transportation and lifting tasks, eliminating diesel emissions.
In April 2021, to address climate change issues, Tadano Group launched a comprehensive program called Tadano Green Solutions. Among the goals of the wide-ranging initiative was to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 through products, services and business activities. Included in the company’ s environmental targets was a 35 % reduction in CO2 emissions from product use by 2030 compared to a 2019 baseline.
One of the ways that Tadano Green Solutions is now working to reach that objective is seen in the recent North American introduction of the new EVOLT eGR-1000XLL-1 rough terrain crane.
The eGR-1000XLL-1, which delivers the same lifting capacity as the Tadano GR-1000XLL-4 100-ton rough-terrain model, has a 42.0- to 167.3-foot main boom and can be equipped with boom extensions. The two-axle machine with a 4x4x4 drive system has a maximum operating radius of 190 feet and a 20,000-pound hoist line pull capability.
Powered by lithium-ion batteries for both transportation and lifting, the eGR-1000XLL-1 eliminates diesel emissions and offers up to seven hours of lifting or up to five hours of lifting plus 5.5 miles of jobsite travel with its onboard battery pack. Plug-in capability can also provide for continuous crane use. Its quiet operation, according to the manufacturer, is especially advantageous in areas with noise regulations and allows for indoor and night-time operations.
The Tadano eGR-1000XLL-1 rough terrain crane can be charged using standard 480 VAC grid power or a CCS1 rapid charging system. When using three-phase 480V normal charging with 60A capacity, it takes 4.5 to 5.5 hours to fully charge the crane’ s battery. With rapid charging, the battery is fully charged in two to three hours. The crane also features regenerative braking to enhance usable battery time between charges.
Other features of the eGR-1000XLL-1 include Lift Visualizer. The system utilizes
a suspended load monitoring camera and pulls critical lift information from the AML Control System and displays it on a video screen, including radius, capacities and load. The AML Control System has an operator interface that facilitates on-board diagnostics, settings and adjustable lifting limits.
Along with all Tadano rough terrain cranes, the eGR-1000XLL-1 enables access to the manufacturer’ s HELLO-NET telematics system, which provides operational details including work history, machine position data and maintenance schedules. Owners and operators can also use the EVOLT App to remotely monitor battery status, operating history and distance to destination for the electric rough terrain crane.
With the eGR-1000XLL-1 Tadano is clearly focused on contributing to a better environment through products.“ We’ ve set ambitious goals to reduce CO2 and have begun changing the design of our products to limit our carbon footprint,” the company noted.“ This new rough terrain crane represents how we are lowering emissions and reducing waste.”
