Crane Talk
DECEMBER 2024
Looking Ahead
By Brian Ethridge HEAD OF CONTENT
As 2024 comes to a close, Crane Hot Line’ s very own Mike Larson looks ahead to 2025 with insights from industry experts. While the construction outlook remains positive, uncertainty lingers due to potential policy shifts. Demand continues to be strong for projects such as data centers, power plants, manufacturing facilities and infrastructure developments. However, the potential impact of interest rate hikes and trade conflicts could affect construction costs and lead to project cancellations.
Financiers expect a shift toward pro-growth policies under a business-oriented administration, which could lower lending rates and boost demand for equipment financing and leasing. Despite this, supply chain challenges and workforce shortages continue to be major concerns.
The growing popularity of boom trucks is highlighted in this issue, with interviews from key manufacturers. Boom trucks are valued
for their ease of service, maneuverability and operator comfort. Manufacturers are focusing on features such as self-leveling outriggers, full load moment indicator systems and improved ergonomics. Boom trucks are increasingly used for taxi crane work, utility services, precast concrete and electric utility tasks, with the market expected to grow in 2025 due to infrastructure demands and diverse applications.
Additionally, you’ ll enjoy this month’ s job story, which features a case study on a 500-ton Tadano all-terrain crane used in both dismantling a tower crane and setting precast panels for a 44-story mixed-use building project in Milwaukee.
Aside from all the articles listed above, we have several other great pieces of content that you’ ll be treated to as you flip through the pages. Happy reading! Brian Ethridge
