Tandem Cranes Tackle Arlington Race Build

BOSS Crane uses a
GMK7550 all-terrain crane on one end and a GMK6300L to tandem lift the Horseshoe Club section into place.
Before race cars could take to the streets of Arlington, Texas, crews spent weeks transforming the city’ s entertainment district into a temporary racing venue complete with pedestrian bridges, grandstands and safety barriers.
Bennett On-Site Services, commonly known as BOSS Crane, played a key role in the build, using cranes to install four pedestrian bridges, pit lane suites, the Horseshoe Club seating section and multiple grandstands along the 2.73-mile course that wound through downtown Arlington near AT & T Stadium and Globe Life Field.
One of the most demanding operations came at Turn 7, where crews performed a tandem lift to place the Horseshoe Club seating structure. Using a Grove GMK7550 all-terrain crane on one end and a Grove GMK6300L on the other, the team lifted and positioned the 202,000-pound structure onto its pedestals.
The lift required careful coordination between the two cranes and crews, particularly as challenging wind conditions moved through the site. Despite the conditions, the structure was set into place and the cranes were safely demobilized without incident.
“ The infrastructure behind a street race of this caliber requires partners who can operate at the highest level. BOSS Crane & Rigging and Bennett Motor Express met every challenge this project threw at them, and the race was better for it. We were glad to have them as part of the team,” said Jonathan Bailey, vice president of operations for Penske Entertainment Corp.
The work extended beyond race weekend. Following the event, crews returned to dismantle the temporary structures and remove the barriers and fencing that had turned downtown Arlington into a street circuit, restoring the area to normal operations.

• JK Technology Services has appointed Dewey Snavely as director of operations, risk management and training for its craning
Snavely and rigging operations, the company announced July 8.
Snavely joins the company as JKTS continues to expand its crane, rigging and specialized logistics services for data center and IT-related projects. The company provides storage, final-mile logistics, craning and rigging services in Northern Virginia and other markets.
In his new role, Snavely will oversee the development and execution of operational processes for the company’ s craning, rigging and specialized warehousing services. His responsibilities include creating standard operating procedures, safety protocols and workforce development programs.
Snavely brings more than 30 years of experience in the crane and rigging industry. Most recently, he served as vice president of field operations at A & A Transfer. He also previously worked as a heavy equipment and rigging specialist for the Fairfax County Urban Search and Rescue Team and helped establish crane and rigging capabilities at M. C. Dean as equipment safety manager. Earlier in his career, he served in the U. S. Army as part of the Department of Defense’ s Technical Rescue Engineer unit.
Snavely’ s appointment follows several other recent additions to the company’ s leadership team, including John Novak as vice president of sales, Mike Lozupone as vice president of business development and technology services and Adam Nelson as account executive.
• Engineered Rigging has expanded its engineering team with the addition of three engineers to support the company’ s growing portfolio of heavy rigging and specialized transport projects.
The new hires will develop engineering plans for civil construction, energy, manufacturing, industrial and aerospace projects throughout the United States and internationally.
Chad Lee has joined the company as a senior project engineer at Engineered Rigging’ s headquarters in Valparaiso, Indiana. He brings 16 years of Lee experience in process management,
